dear weekend, i am a fan.
i don't imagine that a weekend that starts off with a victory at the christian put-put could be all that bad. we went with the new testament. seriously, i didn't do so hot on the hole that went downhill into the empty tomb, but i still beat the pants off the leon. he would scoff that it was only one point, but i maintain that his pants would have been removed had i been able to cheat, as is normally my want. he wouldn't let me. christian golf, you know.
oh, but i forgot about my new coif. in addition to the harlot red i've got shakin', i also splurged on a quarterly "i'm going to cut it off myself" preventative maintenance. i looked super hotttt for about 24 hours. at which point my hair lost its salon memory, and reverted to it's slacker self. heck, at least i banished the "kristi mcnichol" that i had been rockin'
today, to continue the religious theme, i attended a church consignment sale. half-price day! do i live big, or what? i scored really big on c-dawg cuteness, and got a few choice outfits for the kindergartner.
after a victory lunch at the chinese buffet, and a well deserved nap, the boys and i stocked up on sushi supplies and vegetarian jello. while we were gone? the leon mowed the mixed-trash yard we've been cultivating. now if he can manage to get the old car junked (i so wish i were lying) we might almost be respectable. well, as respectable as two different hued, unevenly yolked (love that biblical reference, don't you?) folks can be.
and now for a commentary on music for kids and christian rock. okay, so, i went to this awesome church camp on the lake every summer. cross my little pea pickin' heart, it were a swell time. i got to sail, flirt with boys, get shaving tips from my bunk mates, and make some bitchin' crafts. i also? won the karaoke christian rock contest two years in a row. i knew my christian rock. forget about amy grant, lisa welchel was my ticket to victory. blair was the bomb. but you know? even she couldn't save me from my love of wham.
the deal is? christian rock is a lot like coming out of the closet. you just can't stop mentioning that you are a christian every damn time you open your mouth to sing. God made trees, didn't he? so sing about some damn trees (this is foreshadowing), already. or that smokin' boy sitting next to you. i'm all for expressing joy and love and all that good stuff, praise music shouldn't be all the same, ya know?
music written for kids is just as bad. songs about the abcs written the same way, over and over again. peanut butter and jelly wiggling. yada yada yada. broaden your scope, people. sing about amoebas or something. world is your oyster. which brings me to my new old love.
they might be giants. i love them more than life. children's music that doesn't suck!!! like the newsboys or one bad pig! and the kids? sold. dude. a children's album with a song about conifers? me likey.
tonight i might go knitting, or out to a movie. might stay home with the leon. choices, choices.
and tomorrow? i might church hop. 'cause there ain't nothin' this girl likes better than a theme. watch out quakers, here i come!
