spring break has started off with a bang. the boys and i took off on a road trip to see an old friend. she and i went to elementary school together and both moved to this fair state years ago. perhaps fourteen or so years. and yet? have never gotten together. my nephew shamed me into joining facebook recently (your 74 year old father has one, he scoffed), and i have been catching up with all my new york friends. she's not there, so i tracked her down through her father and gave her a call. bada boom, bada bing...road trip. can you believe that she was only 3 hours away? it is sheer lamesauce that we hadn't gotten together before now. it was such an easy visit. conversation flowed, the kids played, and a lovely time was had by all. meanwhile? the leon worked on fixing some of the storm damage we never quite have time for.
as a side note on nostalgia? a man that went to my high school came into my coffee shop recently. we reminisced. and we talked about my leaving high school for college without graduating. he said that he was sorry that i left early. i thought that was so sweet. until he followed it up by saying that he always used to cheat off my tests, and was very upset that he couldn't continue to do so. *heh*
last night i ventured off to ne's house to work on an identity system for a freelance client. the logo is really coming along, and i am sore excited to see the finished project. hurrah for freelance clients that have good taste, can collaborate, AND pay on time! even if they are time crunchy. i also got to eat scones, and absconded with some homemade jam. her jam is scary good, so i'll have you know now that i officially win at jam.
today i have spent looking for a stove as ours has gone caput. it, along with every other appliance we own, has rebelled against us. the stove, however, gets top billing. primarily due to a lack of muffins. and quiche. ever try to make a quiche in a toaster oven? i'll have you know, it can be done. and done fucking well, i might add. if, like me, you win at quiche.
lots to do this afternoon. we dusted off the old edison victrola and gave it a spin before we cleared out an eave in the attic for the boys. supahsekrit fort building has now commenced. they are now trying to figure out what is bigger: a trillian? a zillian? google infinity?
the leon will get glasses this afternoon, and i can't wait to see what he ends up with. i will go with him, of course, to prevent him from purchasing what i fondly refer to as "militant black man glasses" as is his wont. of course, anything is a step up from his first electrical taped, then paperclipped glasses which have now been frankenstined with a pair of mine. i've also got to go try to recreate the awesome of my recent haircut without a stylist at my beck and call. i have to look stunning before the eyewear selection so that i can distract him from ill chosen eyewear with my stunning beauty.
the leon goes back to work tomorrow, so i've got to make hay while the sun shines.
p.s. oldfogierobies.blogspot.com will be launching later this week.
