one of my friends suggested that i tell her what i've been reading. well, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. some cookbooks, some books about the new monastic movement. reading harry potter to the kids, reading bits of 39 clues books for mr8's book club. ya know. what have i been totally absorbed by? well, here are the goods.

man, this book had such a great voice to it. i love character driven books, and the cat this book was about? fascinating. it won an edgar award, which is pretty cool. i've latched on to a couple nifty authors with their award lists - tana french, among them. have you read any tana french? disturbing scenarios but absolutely amazing amazing characters.

this book is crazysauce. i mean, i'm entirely shocked that i read it. i know i must have seen it somewhere online and added it to my library queue, but i'm totally wtf here. not only that? but i frakkin' read the damn thing. and it was goooooooooooooooooood. long - which was great, because i kept thinking to myself, when is this going to end? i don't want it to end - and i was only moving at a snail's 20 page pace, so it took forever. i can read a book in an evening, so that's saying a lot. my advice? don't read excerpts or descriptions online. go into it cold.

blame rick riordan for this one, folks. what a colloidal jerk. he's caused more strife and discord in our home than you could imagine. first of all, he's the favorite author OF ALL TIME FAVORITE AUTHORS (except for that harry potter lady - they're pretty fond of her, too). he had a number of suggestions for kids that were waiting for his next book to come out, skullduggery pleasant was one of them. my father's day present to theLeon? was letting him read the book first. this is after we had to order them off the ebays because they are fancy dancy import books and the library doesn't carry 4&5 (okay, you can get 5 through ill, but i got them darn cheap as a package deal). thank you library for taunting me with the first two I'M NOT BITTER OR ANYTHING. at any rate, theLeon acknowledges my great sacrifice. this book? man. living skeleton detective that throws fireballs. ah. ma. zink.
