one day i went to target. and there was a blown transformer.

as i had the time, and didn't want to drive back across town, i pulled out my knitting, and began to people watch.

at first i tried to tell people that target was closed, but after i repeated myself a couple of times to the same woman, i gave up. another woman that i told? said, "this is ridiculous!" i don't know if being closed due to a transformer blow out is quite ridiculous. inconvenient? she wasn't the only one disturbed by the situation. person after person approached the store. they opened the outside door. they ignored the beeping security system, and peered inside. at one point? people just formed a line. these scenes repeated themselves for almost a half hour.

i think that, sometimes? things are too convenient. everything on demand. sometimes events happen that are beyond control.

today? at the coffee shop? we had a power outage that put us a behind. some customers? huffed and puffed. one woman? screamed and shouted.

but then there were the patient customers
that smiled at me, and waited their turn.
and they made all the difference.
