you never write. you never call. heck, you never post...

i'll do better, honest!!!

lessie. 'bout those kidlings...the c-dawg? was totally freaked out when his brother went to kindergarten. and became a sad. sad. little boy. lots of accidents. bad behavior. you know, typical acting out things. i'm not above bribery in certain situations (which would really upset my pre-baby self. she was above that). seriously. do you think i'd be working if there wasn't money on the other end of that stick? everyone is motivated by something. the trick is finding out what that motivator is.

vegetarian gummy bears, although expensive, are the ONLY motivator for this boy. they work like a charm to prevent potty accidents. now about that behavior. he was better after he was given a special toy that he could only play with right after he got home IF he had good behavior. but something was still missing. what was it? what was the key?

today we found it.

leon picked him up after h-man's doctor's appointment (across the street). and they had to swing by work to show me his prize.

napkins, my friends. napkins. he was a lovely little boy today and his teacher let him pick out a treat because she was so proud of him. and he chose? napkins. cute little plaid napkins.

i love this kid.

h-man is absorbing the spanish lessons at his magnet school like a friggin' sponge. and he's teaching his brother. the c-dawg had an evaluation at his daycare/preschool...and new all his colors in spanish. how fun is that? we learn new words every day. i'm thinking about starting spanish classes (they're free on wednesday nights at his school). 'cause all my brain retained from high school was the obligatory cuss words, and navigation to the nearest bathroom.

the band's newest hit

h: doggies come back in the fourth of july
c: (chirps) a-hoy! coo-coo!

h explains: it was a pirate dog. back from vacation. he was saying coo-coo to the pirates.

oh, it makes perfect sense now...

the lego ice cream flavor of the day:

terday was one of the last days at the farmers market. the weather is getting crispy. i love crispy weather. strolling outside with all those fall foods? lovely. we got cinnamon rolls as big as our heads. imported olive oil. peppers, and eggplants. kenny's cheese http://www.kennyscountrycheese.com/tradition.html oh, and real apples. none of that grocery crap that we get in the south. the woman apologized for only having tart apples left. heh. she made us a grand assortment.

there is a new vendor at the market selling coffee that he's roasting locally. i arranged for him to bring me some green coffee beans in order to experiment with what i believe will be my newest obsession roasting our own coffee. it was only a matter of time. first i start drinking coffee at work. then i start making it at home. then i start grinding my own beans. then i start making esspresso, and buy a frother. then i start drinking this stuff black. so, roasting? intriguing.

another favorite part of the farmers market is charlie the guitarist. he's a fascinating guy. remembers the kids because of their presidential names. all sorts of fascinating nuggets of information spring out from that guy. yesterday he played "now that i found you" when we asked for the beatles. that's a beatles song? i really thought that it originated with allison kraus and union station. wrong. now our man, charlie, almost always sings baudy tunes from the 1920s. he told me that he had played this song earlier in the day, and that the people just lit up. i can tell you why. he was so gentle and loving. this crusty guy at the farmers market. i lit up, too.

after the market we headed off to my friends' new store for their open house. so, gutsy this shop. right off campus in a high-traffic area. yarns (fucking amazing yarns), recycled goods, handmade items. really great stuff. but so many new stores don't make it. i don't think i'm going to have to worry. the traffic was steady all day, and there were a range of ages. they had about 200 cupcakes, so they were well prepared. i returned later that night for the stitch 'n' bitch. it's turning out to be one of the more popular gatherings. oh, and it is right down the street from the ho. http://www.tolly-ho.com/ can you say ho to go? i knew you could.
