i love to cook. and it is so rare that i get to spend that in the moment process of it all. usually i'm rushing. i'm making dinner for a hungry mob, or trying to make lunch in time to walk out the door...it's more utilitarian. even if i'm making something lovely, it is still an expected thing, and needs to please three other people with varying palates.

last night i was lucky enough to be able to cook for a friend. i called her and discussed our options. i shopped for the meal, and then i was able to work through an entirely new recipe. quiche. from julia. blue cheese, and our addition of almost carmelized onions. we had a salad to begin. the toasted almonds saved it. the quiche was freakin' amazing. and then pears with dark chocolate to finish. the process was *almost* as enjoyable as the finished product.

the conversation was lively, the food was delicious, and it was all a calming respite from the swirling storm of my day-to-day.
