i'm going to bite the bullet. even though i am extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemly extremely superstitious about these things. hold my hand, okay? okay.
so, about this new job of mine. well, i guess new-ish at this point. a year now? it's pretty much rockin' my world. oh, but the coffee shop was wearing on this old lady body and old lady tolerance. it was a good time to move on. this is where the universe popped on over to pay me a visit. we park in a church parking lot when headed off to school. i can't walk the kids to school, but this little ritual? along with our supah sekrit i love you handshake? it makes me happy. especially since they'll be bus riders during junior high. but i digress...
okay, don't roll your motherfucking eyes at this. hold still. there was a small notice in the window - needed. church secretary. now, this is the damned craziest thing ever on the planet. i applied for the job? and shit, son. they hired my ass. who'd a thunk?
this is where my life goes from awesome all the way in to straight up awesomesauce. my schedule is this: drive to church parking lot. walk two blocks. drop kids off. let myself into the office. play on the spinning wheel while watching the hulus for an hour before starting work. after i finish up work, i take a leisurely stroll over to the school with my girlfriends (who park in our lot). sure we had to use all the tax money for summer camp so that i can play secretary, but gee, it sure is swell to have a job i love.
some of the perks:
1. my dad died the exact same week i started the job. i got cards from people i hadn't even met yet.
2. parishioner's often leave me flowers. i like flowers.
3. the ladies' groups feed me when they have meetings.
4. my boss will bring me coffee. or make it. she also understands the importance of pie.
5. my boss works around school holidays.
6. i have mondays off. yeah, you heard right.
7. i don't work nights or weekends.
8. i'm two feet from the sorbetto joint, three feet from the yarn store, and 4 feet from two used book stores. approximately.
9. no one ever EVER asks me to do something on personal time.
10. they appreciate me. it's like they care a great deal about the church and see me as a part of that.
i can be myself here, and a big part of that is my boss. she's funny and sarcastic. the kind of person i'd like to hang out with were
i'm appreciating all this eversomuch today. thank you universe. extra big ups for hooking me up.
