livin' la vida loca

yesterday? international culture and kite festival. fun. oh, so fun. but draining. i haven't been out in the sun for a long time. hence the deathlike pallor of this skin. i'm just that sexy. let's just say that it's like the ihop of kite festivals. sure, you can get pancakes at perkins or waffle house...but these panckaes are INTERNATIONAL. and so it goes with kite festivals.

last night i went out to see sarah vowell speak (awesome), and then for dinner. she was bitter and sarcastic and smart. then off to a dinner cabaret with a lovely group of ladies. it was dark and full of chatter, and there were mighty fine mixed drinks. it is a place that we often go to knit, but it had a much different vibe on a night like this. the cabaret was painful, but the women were amusing.

i sat at the table, but didn't feel as if i belonged. i always say something dumb. i'm sure my grammar is abhorrent. it's like sitting at a four way stop waiting for the light to change. not that i did that today. *cough* it was just an example of the dumb i feel wash over me. i'm pretty good with the "hey, i rock" mindset. it's the social scene that i'm not so good at. so, it's more like, "i kinda rock, but not in this here quarry."

today the number one son and i went adventuring while the young one slept. we bought a weed whacker (which amused him to no end -- we whack weeds with it?), and an edging shovel. he liked the blind display because it looked like a house inside the store. i tickled him when he least expected it. next we bought elastic, and then to get his father some manly soap. the leon really wanted some manly soap. we lingered at the store for snacks. he continued to share his muffin long after my scone disappeared. then off to watch him play thomas the train, and feed the ducks. we haven't had a date like this in eons. i've got to do one with little big boy soon, too.

now the excitement of the park followed by yard work and packing for my east coast tour. i like to overprepare for these things. thursday can't come soon enough.
