read at your own risk. spell check has not been engaged.

my husband is a dear man. when he told me that his mama had asked him to drive home this weekend, i think he could see in my eyes that a trip down into the mountains would make me absolutely postal.

i had a simply enormous work project that i just finished. getting there early. leaving late. no lunches. for weeks upon end. and i was spent. spent. spent.

so my dearest leon packed up the kids. and gave me the gift of a night alone.

i took a half day and moseyed on over to the dmv to transfer our new car into our names. thing is? the dude sold it to us waaaaaay under blue book. so now i have a form that he has to sign. and it needs to be notarized...

thus? i quickly got outta dodge and treated myself to a simply marvelous lunch at the hippy joint across the street. i paid off some library fines. *cough* not that i'm the type to have library fines. and traipsed guilt free through the knitting and gardening sections.

then i went to a few used furniture places. i'm on a quest for the perfect sofa for our parental lair. we have a finished attic, you see. and our new year's resolution was to drink more. leon has already installed a hidden bar in one of the cabinets of the built in shelving unit, and he'll soon add a mini fridge into another cabinet. i'm in charge of furnishings and such. only i'm failing abysmally. nothing is quite right.

so after i hit the stores, i came home to, uh, give the leon a proper send off.

then a great nap. rental of some crap movies. and the warmest, most undisturbed bath of my lifetime. i was cozy and relaxed and stayed up far too late.

i slept in the next day, and took myownsef to the skating rink. it was a fabulous time. then i met up with a lovely friend. we thrifted some more. we got supplies for a beading project. we had amazing coffe. and indian food for lunch. substandard indian food.

leon asked for another day at home. i did him a big favor by granting the request. *snort* i wanted to scream...more sloth! more sloth for the rwkn! but i refrained.

after a break for a quick nap and the letting out of dogs, we met again. at another indian restaurant. for the meal of a lifetime. she was a superb date. fun, witty, glowing in the candlelight. and we ate the. most. fabulous. food.

next i headed to yet another coffee shop to meet up with the stitch 'n bitch. i stayed way too late and smiled way too many times. i also bought decals for my differently abled dog's wheelchair. they say "bitch on wheels" and i am slayed by the hillarious.

more sleeping in today. and then a frenzy of domestic activity. sorting the clothes of my progeny. cleaning out closets. making activity centers. dishes. it was unreal.

i went thrifting again with another friend. the sofa remained elusive prey. but i scored with a 1970s fondue pot of unparalleled tacky goodness. when i returned home to see my mens, i was surprised to see the leon with a fondue cookbook he had just brought down from the attic. are we meant to be, or what?

so fondue. muppets. more fondue. the tucking in of wee ones. and now bedtime for the adults.

it was a good weekend. and i am happy that i have them back. it's good to have a life where you miss people. and yearn for their return. and enjoy yourself anyway.

when i asked my eldest if he missed me, he said quite honestly...no. he got to see his cousin, he explained, so he didn't miss me. except in the middle. and a bit at the end.

couldn't have said it better myself.

I like to think of my library fines more as a membership fee. At least you know that the money will go to get more books that you can keep out too long. It's the circle of life.

I am so glad that you got to break in the new fondue pot, what a find. I can't wait until our next outing.
