my friggin' foot did not swell all to hell last night. so, i could sleep in the same bed with leon...and only mostly yelp. instead of constantly yelp, when he hit said appendage. so, technically that was last night, and somehow i ended up in the young'uns bed, but it mostly counts as today, and my own bed.

mostly fun projects at ye olde' workplace today. plenty o' photoshop. i likes me some photoshop. plus? free starbucks. my most favorite phrase ever. 'ceptin some other phrases i use. can't think of them right now, but they are my favorite too. i love all of you the same, pumpkins. i had a bit of the starbucks. or two. i can't help myself! it brings me gleeeeee!

my friend ne? she took me to lunch. at the co-op. where i had, among other things, the best stuffed pepper in the universe. i liken it to the stuffed peppers of my youth. it was better, actually. but don't tell my mama. i haven't revealed this to her yet. i think it will have to be our little secret. you can keep a secret, can't you, internets? oh, and key lime pie. which wasn't as good as my grandmas. because she would pick the keylimes from the fruit trees out back. or if my memory is whacked, she at least got them mostly fresh. 'cause it was florida. they know their citrus in florida. and she would serve the pie out on the lanai. it had a pebbled floor. which was cool to the feet. and indoor plants. and a skink or two that had snuck in. she had an aqua metal table covered with aqua glass. so, that's not only the best key lime pie i've ever had, but also the best pie eating location in the universe. i'd say that it was the best pie i've ever had, but i'd be lying. the best pie i've ever had was my blueberry nectarine pie that i made from baking with julia. i made it for the birthday of this old dude that i used to work with. he was the quiet sort. didn't get excited by much. but dang, if he didn't freak out over the flaky crust and flavor of the best ever pie.

last night i bought crusty bread, and stuffs and when knitting. i need to finish the #1 sock of doom, so that i can move on to the #2 sock of doom, so that i can work on two pairs of quite nice socks that i'm knitting for my ownsef. and i need to figure out hat patterns for the miracle baby twins. i need to decide whether they will be summer hats (i think not) or fallish. so, fallish it is. i'll just google fall knit baby hat patterns and see what i get. i think i'm going to mix and match the yarns and do sumpin' like this: http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/archives/2006/06/01/things_that_can_be_yours.html only not like a strawberry. 'cause i already made them some fruitish hats, and i want these to be versatile. but first? the #1 sock of doom.

so, tonight i had nothing to do but bemoan the demise of a another zappa love story. i figured that i should take a crack at home waxing. what's not to love? weeks of not having to shave. not that i feel that i HAVE to shave. but the last month has been special, because i've taken an extra couple of week in order to maximize the possibility of waxing success.

why waxing? since they canceled budget living and sent me friggin' redbook magazine in its stead, i've learned that it is all about being a tiger in bed for the husband. grrr.

simple process. heat up some wax in the old microwave. slather it on, press down a strip of paper and rip that hair right out of the follicle. it's like midiveal torture that you perform on yourself! two tips, though. 1) stop ripping as the wax cools and 2) don't fucking try this shit if you have any pain receptors in your body. forget about the eyebrow wax you had in the salon...this is a much larger territory that you've got to cover, or uncover, as it were. damn. this really fucking smarts. think it was worth it though, in order to present the leon with a half o leg of raw sexy leg (heavy on the raw). grrrrr.

luckily, i picked the leg opposite of the bum foot. much better for the ocd when you've got equal amounts of pain going down. it all balances out.

home waxing is very difficult with the sorts of stuff you can buy at the drug store.

those don't work, as the wax is either too hot or not hot enough. that means more pain. also, any larger area, like legs or bikini line should have hard wax, not wax that requires strips because the hair is more coarse and is less likely to break that way.

if you must continue though, pull the skin really tight as you pull the wax off, then quickly press down on the area to help minimize pain.

afterwards, use some sort of astringent to sanitize the area. it will sting, but it's kind of important. you can use soap and water and wait a few hours to astringe if you are sensitive to pain.

then you need to exfoliate the area regularly as the hairs grow back or you will get CRAZY ingrowns.

how do i know all this?

i do my own waxing. i bought a decent set up at the local beauty supply for about $90, and it's lasted two years. i've had to buy two refills of wax, but i get to do it at my convenience.

one of the best purchases i ever made.
