to bee, or not to bee...that is the question

the weight of the world is upon me. i'm feeling a tad bit, nay, a ginormous bit weltschmerzy.

weltschmerz, is perhaps, my favorite german word of all time. it has entered the english vernacular. the definition? loosely: Sorrow or sadness over the present or future evils or woes of the world in general; sentimental pessimism.

this is me. i've got some powerful sadness going down over here at the wankenobiecasa. my favorite little speller got eliminated from the national spelling bee on account of my weakness. i couldn't support her as i should. spelling bees make me anxious.

i can't spell normally. and there is so much pressure to spell. i mean, i can't add, i can't reason, my grammar sucks, but i do sorta kinda know my way around your every day pedestrian spellings. i also know the difference between well and good...and it is, and it's, but those are superpowers. they don't count.

so, my point is...i'm walking around in fear of the misspelled word. oh, like label? i always want to spell it lable. there are others, but i'm just not ready to get in front of the group to admit that i have a spelling problem. for all you know, it might just be the singular word lable. i might not be misspelling words, in secret, to friend's who won't care. i might not be taking the precaution of using spell-check. it's just a little word here and there. it's not a problem. i can totally handle it.

and the spelling BEE? it gives me HIVES! (see? i'm punny, too! get it? not funny? but punny? *rolls around in sleep-deprived laughter*)

i watched "so you think you can dance" tonight. BECAUSE I DON'T CARE WHETHER OR NOT THEY CAN DANCE. but i sure hope that they can spell. because some of them? oh, you really don't want that shit burned into your retinas, believe-you-me.

i should have been supporting that cute little canadian girl who had her hair braided on just the sides with the back down. and check out this name! so cute! finola mei hwa hackett!

but i didn't. support her. because i was afraid. and thus she was felled by one of my favorite german words of all time.

bet she not only knows how to spell weltschmerz, now...bet she knows its definition, too.
