the boys are nosing around in the attic, looking for treasure. and they found one, sort of. the in search of buried treasure yearbook. *rolls eyes* i'm sure i've read it, but i honestly don't remember now that it is 100 years in the future...

there are lots of references to people being horny and sex, and staying sweet forever. honestly, it was the first year that i lived in kentucky, and i really think they just didn't know me that well. particularly amusing are the boys who refer to themselves as "the boz", or "the himezer"...the hell? there are also a few dear entries from dear friends. mostly everyone talks about all the crazy stuff that we did that year and hopes for better years to come. it's been so long ago...

and then an entry from my first boyfriend. he was so sweet to me, so dear. and all the time i spent pining after him after we broke up? years later it turns out that it might have been hard for him, too.

Dear Beautiful,

I really enjoyed being with you for 3+ months (this is the equivalent of, what, 10 years in adult years?). Oh, well, have fun in life. I know I will.
[and then the kicker, because we promised each other that we'd do this if things didn't work out]. Look me up in Duluth Minnesota in 20 years, PLEASE. Nice talkin' to you again [heart exclamation point, heart exclamation point]

Love,
JL

it occurs to me that it is 20 years later this year, and that i can't see him in duluth. he died on my birthday in 2004 leaving his family behind. more than anything, i wish they could see him in duluth, too.
