we went to procure a christmas present for the old one this morning. we bought a skateboard, helmet & pads, and cool shirt for bonfonzo the magnificent (his bear). of course this leads to two problems. 1) that the young kid is peeved that he has to give the stuff to his bubba, and 2) the young kid can't possibly keep a secret. much like his father, he feels compelled to tell about the present because he's just so excited.
[his father just told me exactly what he's getting me, how excited he is, and has run out to buy it at 11fucking43 because he can't possibly wait any longer. he did TRY. he looked it up online, and then wiped the history so that i wouldn't find out. and then told me anyway. goofball. *grin*]
as for the former difficulty, he's just going to have to deal. his brother is going to pick out whatever he wants as a gift. and he can ask him to share later. they are awesome about sharing, so i'm guessing this will work out.
as for the latter? i totally lied my ass off. first of all, excitedly, he said, "i got a skateboard? did you make sure to get me a helmet and pads?" *cracks up* okay, so when i recovered i told him that we absolutely got him a skateboard. a pretzel skateboard. and WE ATE IT. then i told him that we actually got him chocolate covered rocks. [rinse and repeat]
the crowning glory of the day was the story i told about the christmas that i spent all by myself in arizona. i dressed up in my christmas tree costume and decorated myself with household objects. then i wrapped up my left shoe. it was the best present that i ever got.
yes. i am the kind of parent that would wrap up a few left shoes and toss them in the pile. and that is just the beginning...
