the kid? seven. i now have a seven-year-old. blah blah blah party. blah blah blah presents. blah blah blah how did he get so old. okay, wait, i've gothttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif to revisit that a minute. how DID he get so old?
i remember yeeeeeeeeeeears ago...when we first encountered the harry potter rash at school...the kid wanted to see the movie more than anythingintheentireuniverseamen. i reached into my brain and thought of an appropriate age for entering the potterverse, and i said, "you can't see it now, but seven sounds like a good age."
so, yesterday we trotted down to the friendly neighborhood bookstore. we picked out a book without pictures, folks. and we settled into bed with a few caveats. you know, "your parents aren't planning on kicking the bucket any time soon" and "it's all pretend"...and then i began to read.
i forgot about the lengthy descriptions of the dursleys at the beginning of the book. i kept checking to see if it seemed tedious to him. if i was going to have to go all s. morgenstern on it. nope. the boy was entranced. he begged to read a little longer.
i kissed him goodnight, and he murmured that he couldn't wait until tomorrow. for what? i asked. the book. THE BOOK.

Bravo!
I think you've done well with him - and seven seems a good time for Mr. Potter.
