okay, so my parents helped me get ellie out of hock. the vet who saw her? was tearing up as he put her in my car. he told me that she had kissed him even as he was putting in her i.v. he said that we'll be in his thoughts. we headed over to our regular vet who was wonderful. he gave us all the options and scenarios. i feel badly, because had we known how serious her injury was? we would have had a better shot at her recovery. right now it is looking like fifty fifty.
my mother's chances after her spinal cord injury? they weren't even close to being that good. so i have hope. he also perfected a technique for back surgery that is used at auburn. so that's a good thing. and he's done thousands of these over the years. also? much cheaper than having to drive to a neighboring city. the closest places who do this? over an hour and a half away. and about six hundred dollars more.
she's in surgery in about fifteen minutes. she'll be at the clinic for three to five days, and it will take six to eight weeks to find out if she's going to walk. then our options are those goofy dog wheel chairs and expressing her bladder three times a day, or that option that shall not be named.
can i just tell you how much i love my husband? i thought he was dropping the kids off and then meeting me at home. but no, the sweet man met me at the clinic. he dreamed of ellie all night. oh, and he didn't even bat an eye at the cost. he just assumed that we'd find a way. we did, by the way. i have a pet loving relative that ponied up the entire crazy amount. and said that we didn't have to pay him back until we were rich. apparently he is not only generous? but also very patient. it's so strange. we never asked for help when leon was out of work...but for our dog? we are shameless hussies when it comes to our dogs.
i'm going to go sleep now.
