yesterday morning was tragic. in the way that only a morning could be. leon ran to the car on a lunchbox run, and soon i had the lunches made. perfectly scrambled eggs. fluffy. light. fabulous. the last of the awesome muffins. cinnamon applesauce. good stuff. kids were dressed without much pain. breakfasts were consumed. the leon was out the door. and i couldn't find the damn keys.
yeah, so, i suspected that the leon had pocketed them. 'cause he's crafty like that. ::snort:: no problem. i figured that i'd just give him a little call. oh, except the phone was in the car. no biggie, 'cause the leon done never locks the car. except. locked car.
in a moment of sheer brilliance, i instant message my friend. who calls him. except he's not answering the phone, of course, because he's on the worksite. when his break comes up, he answers the phone and tells her that my spare is on the buffet. except it isn't. we've got a set of keys AND a SPARE set of keys to the mixed trash car in the driveway, but not to the van. he comes home and realizes that he has hidden the spare. to keep it safe, you see.
a recap: he steals my keys. i can't call him. phone is locked in my car. spare is hidden. bless the internets, we are saved! also, as a side note, my car is unlocked this morning. ::sigh::
by the time we get to school, we are late. not a big surprise. but kinder wants to be walked to his room. after the key trauma (no really, i was pretty amused by it all), i figured that i owed him that.
then the spanish teacher corners me. where is his homework? there was a memo. weekly homework. because the workload was too much for the wee ones. oh, no. that is english homework. spanish is daily. unless, of course, it isn't. sometimes, it is every other day. ::ahem::
a recap: english homework, once a week, every other week. except that it is a sham, because they have daily assignments for the weekly homework. and spanish homework every day, unless it is every other day.
i take full advantage of naptime. the rest of the day? fabulous.
first of all, girlchiles be daggoned...i don't need no stinkin' girlchiles to be all matchy-poo. my babe and i rock the matchy-poo. black shirts. blue jeans. saddle shoes.
we splurge on pizza. table for seven, we say. and birthday bear, rudolph the dog, soydog (but you can't really eat him), bonfonzo the magnificent, and boo-boo butterbean, all settle down for a nice pie.
we pick up the other guy. the four-year-old decides to play the go in the opposite direction game. mommy is all about tough love. doesn't take the bait. someone mistakes the kid for lost. AND PICKS HIM UP. damn, but i didn't think to yell "stranger danger!" i motion her off, but her perfectly coiffed, business suit self, does not trust that he can walk the five feet to the car. and she gives me the bad mommy stare. i am fully prepared to stranger danger her ass if i see her again.
next, we head on over to give the leon some pizza, and gas money. oh, don't get me started. he's working on the electrical at a new spa that the hotel is putting in. they have a playground. there is never enough time to actually play at the playground when we stop by. aha! but yesterday! fun in the volleyball sandpit. running full force into the sand mountain that hasn't been spread out. hiding in plain sight (why can't mommy see us?). teeter-totter madness! and the best, of all, the merry-go-round. they have an old school merry-go-round. the kind that they have clearly outlawed because of the danger. after a few slight mishaps of the kinda flying off variety...we settle upon the two children on my lap method. which is spectacular. did i mention that the leon is some sort of spinning savant? so. fast. the. wind. is. knocked. out. of. me. and worth it. because it is sooooooo fast.
when we get home the babe tries to convince me that we should turn the entire house into a barn. he is obviously missing the barn-like atmosphere that we've cultivated with the dogs and kids and such. he guesses that it might be a bit too much to do the entire house when he sees my blank stare. "but we can SPLIT. UP. mommy," he says. ah, yes, that solves everything. you take the sows, i'll take the geese.
after a quick second nap (don't judge. it was a long day.) i dump the family and head off to the yarn store. to work on the doll pattern we downloaded from the internets. we are knitting fro hair for them. they are funky fresh. i nixed the mutton chops idea, but i may revisit it. there will be vests and shaft necklaces. poor internets pattern. totally pimping them out. can't wait to flickr they asses. the flickr pool will never be the same.
then i cheats on my coffee house. the free-trade, organic, feather pattern in your hand-pulled espresso shot, coffee house. it has a damn waterfall. and a kayak on the ceiling. and the best damn chai latte in existence. i think it is going to be a long term affair.
today, we're going simple. grocery shopping.
