man. i need some new books. i haven't really read much since mr7 was born. mostly, i stuck to magazines. quick, and easy to put down in order to bathe a baby, or later on, if i had to run interference between brothers. but now that i'm getting snatches of time to myself, i need some good books.
i did manage to read harry potter, but that was mostly a one day affair, and when i read them to the kids (we're reading "the adventures of captain bluebear" right now. highly recommended). the vampire novels only took a day at a time. those kinds of books are the exception to the rule, however. kinda fluffy. kinda good. but not something that sticks with you.
last week i tried some tom wolfe (the font bugged me). nick hornby (too rapid fire). and a john irving novel that i thought i hadn't read, but had (during that lent, long ago, when i gave up television. *shudders).
back in the day, irving, and pat conroy were staples. i also loved the alienist, and its series companion. i remember loving the carrie fisher books. "don't know much about history" is amusing, as is "the idiots guide to the bible." heck, i devoured all sorts of other things that i can't recall.
figuring out where to go from here is difficult. the aforementioned wolfe, hornby, etc. (i don't remember the etc., but i wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to read it, either) were a recommendation, and an impulse buy. i think i need to just buddy up with a librarian. is there a personals site to hook one up with likeminded librarians? i so need that.
